Working from home can be great … no boss breathing down your neck telling you what to do, you can take lunch when it suits you, and no travelling. But unless you’re organised and have a routine in place, your business may start to suffer.
Distractions, phone calls, kids, lack of concentration, and being disorganised can all contribute to a chaotic day.
I’ve listed some good habits for home-based businesses that will help keep you on the right track.
- Designate yourself a work space
Make sure your work area is completely separate from your living area so that there are less distractions - Have a set schedule
If your day is organised into tasks you are much more likely to get things done - Get up at the same time everyday
This will improve your time-management skills - Keep a calendar
Check your calendar first thing in the morning and plan your day - Keep a to-do list
Keep this list updated so you know what needs to be done - Set distinct office times
Make sure you work at set times of the day - Don’t spend ALL DAY home alone
Spend some time outside – perhaps meeting up with colleagues or clients
